Kinja'd!!!

I learned how to love the fuel shortage, well,

It isn’t a shortage anymore, a judge ordered Obrador to have t he pipes re-opened, but people are stupid and keep buying and buying and buying fuel. So the lines are still long.

But I feel no more stress taking the bus than by driving, and I’m saving a lot of money. Also air quality improved in many parts of the country... not my city, but still.

In the last ten days I drove once and it felt like an occasion. I do feel sad though because most of the cars the bus passes had one passenger, which I normally don’t give a shit about but during a widely anticipated fuel shortage, how does this make sense?

Anyway.

I still recognize that I’m lucky that there’s a bus near my house and my commute hours aren’t crazy. Our mayor promised public transport and food suplies will remain functional no matter what thanks to a contingency plan with Pemex. This is not something mayors or governors across the country had the power to do however... and to them it was a challenge.

I want this shortage to end, but I still feel like I should continue taking the bus more, or at least carpool.

Gasoline is at $2.29/gallon where I live. My car gets 30 mpg and I fill up about once every three weeks.

The federal gov. shutdown is rediculous and there is no end in sight. I am thinking this could continue for another month or two.

Trump served fast food to the college foot ball champions, while the white house has one of the best chefs and cooking capabilities in the country. What a douche.

I was considering driving 2 hours this weekend to look at a newer vehicle, which I really don't need, just kind of want. It's going to be snowing and all kinds of weather related shenanigans this weekend. I think the universe is telling me something.

I did see that. I thought it was to make a point that he was suffering due to the shutdown too. Meanwhile actual food stamp recipients might need to brace for a while.

I found this near me:  https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/d/fishers-e92-bmw-3-series-335i-6-speed/6788892146.html

I have contacted the owner, seemed like a nice enough guy and talked with a couple of my BMW fanatic friends for opinions. I’ll go look at it next week, so I have a week to search the forums for all the stuff that goes wrong on these.

Nice! A really cool e92.

T hough most contemporary BMWs are probably mine fields unless they were kept by very keen owners... Maybe a PPI could help, specially if it’s a 300hp rwd coupe for under 10k!

It will definitely be PPI’d

It will become my autox car so I only care about the mechanical bits.

Chapo has been lying all the way around the trial. I doubt that this actually happened. But you never know. Peña Nieto left office in disgrace, and no one really knows anything about him or his family, some rumor that the first lady and the kids moved to Los Angeles or Miami and he moved to, erm, Toluca.

Kinja'd!!!

He and his wife had their first public appearance a few days ago his uncle’s funeral. The man to the front left is Peña’s cousin, and the man at the very back to the left I suspect is former Governor Eruviel Avila.

Peña, his cousin, and his uncle, were all governors of State of Mexico. Members of the so called “ Atlacomulco group” of elite politicians from the city of the same name.

End times await PRI and the group , as Peña’ s Cousin is probably the last member of the group. His party lost the local congress to an opposition supermaj ority.

Shamefully those are the most brittle, though the gearbox at least won’t cause any trouble being a manual. I wish I could help more but I know jack shit about BMW maladies.

I went to class and work today, I’m also feeling physically sick and might take tomorrow off if I’m feeling worse.

Mentally I feel bad because we’re working on childhood trauma in therapy and it’s triggering a lot of things.

I’m also supposed to get my new personal laptop in the mail which would be nice as my current one is barely holding on and is 6 years old.

I’m also in Michigan and might go to the Detroit  auto show this weekend.

Mine just turned five, I think it’s OK... it’s very fast, but if something happens to it I will have to get a new one, repairing parts on such an old machine is kind of pointless, most are more expensive than the machine itself.

Therapy is also very hard, but something I regret from when I went is that I wasn’t absolutely clear and honest with the therapist. I made his job harder, and I made my process longer. Of course, I am not trying to assume anything about your process... just saying what I would’ve changed about mine.

Lots of anxiety about talking frankly with people, but as soon as you let go of the anxiety , it becomes a lot easier.

If you take care of modern BMWs they’re pretty reliable.

Source: I own two modern well maintained BMWs.

Plus, the bottom end is pretty stout on those engines, so getting 500whp aint that tough.

Slow day then a coworker broke a prototype he was working on. Threw some shit in the lab, cut himself, then in process of picking dripped blood all over the place. Super grossed out.

Jesus... that sounds very intense... It reminds me of when I stepped on rebar when on a construction site.

I limped all the way back to a car, but left a trail of blood behind. Four or three stitches would then grace my foot sole for the next weeks. Thankfully it was very early on the process, so they just poured loads of water over it letting it fall to the ground , and moved on.

I made an amusing screw up with the 3D printer at work. Yesterday I designed a small part in SolidWorks to fit into an existing part. I put it into an assembly to check the fit and it looked great. It’s just a thin plate about 4x3 cm with some through holes in it. Exported to STL and sent to print. Came in this morning and they were supersized at 10x8 cm. Turns out I designed in inches (US Government sorry we draw everything in inches), but the forgot to check the units in the STL. They were in cm and then the printer changed that to inches because it only understands inch and mm. So my parts went from 1.6 inch to 4 cm to 4 in. Now I have a bunch of silly looking plates 2.54x oversized in all dimensions that don’t go with anything. We got it sorted and got a bunch of the correct size ones  printed by lunch. And then did nothing with them. Maybe tomorrow.

Some parts of the US gov don’t use imperial units... like NASA... But it does sound like something very annoying... specially cus those files make little sense!

Last time I printed, I was working on Inventor with millimeters , but Cura thought it was centimeters..... WHY though ? As you say it’s either inches or mm!

I had to go back on inventor, make the piece a hundred times smaller, and try again.

We do a lot of calculations in metric units - for example the speed measurements that we make are in m/s (or km/s). And some of our parts are called out in mm. In fact the larger part these little printed ones attach to has slots in it to hold additional parts that are not only sized in mm but actually have labels molded into the plastic that list the size in mm. But the official drawings are almost always in inches. Even if someone designs in metric you end up with a drawing on your desk that has a 3.93 inches instead of 10 cm. And I don’t see it changing any time soon in my agency.

There are some things out there that work exclusively in CGS. One of the shock physics simulation codes that I use on a regular basis only understands CGS so any distances you feed it are interpreted as cm.  That’s lead to some weird scaling for me over the years.  You get used to CGS if you use it a lot.   One nice thing about is that the density of water is 1 so if you do a lot of calculations where you swap materials it makes calculating weight very easy.
